In mid-September 2024, Kozani, Greece, became the hub for two significant events that highlighted advancements in sustainable energy education and electric vehicle infrastructure training. These events were organized under the SEED (Sustainable Energy Education) project, with collaboration from local and national organizations.

SEED Summer School on Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

As part of the SEED initiative, the University of Western Macedonia, along with its tech spin-off INNORA and in collaboration with PPC S.A.  (Public Power Corporation S.A.), organised the first seminar and SEED Summer School on the Installation, Maintenance, and Repair of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations. Held from 13 to 17 September 2024, the event drew electricians, electrical engineers, and students from various levels of expertise.

Supported by MC-Chargers, a leading Greek manufacturer of charging stations, and LIME Technology, a software company, the seminar offered comprehensive training on charging stations with capacities up to 22 kW (AC and DC). Participants engaged in both theoretical and practical sessions, covering installation procedures, maintenance strategies, and real-world problem-solving. They also received two-year access to an educational app that provided instructional videos and detailed manuals.

Upon completing the 30-hour seminar and passing the final certification exam, participants were awarded a Certificate of Attendance from PPC’s Training and Lifelong Learning Centre (TLLC) and a professional certification from PPC’s Innovation Hub (iHub). This training marks a significant milestone in building local expertise to support Greece’s expanding electric vehicle infrastructure.

A highlight of the meeting was a visit to the Public Power Corporation’s facilities in Kardia, Kozani, where Professor Dimitrios Tsiamitros demonstrated the training methodologies employed for engineers and technicians working on the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment. The emphasis on safety training underscored the importance of properly preparing professionals to handle complex energy infrastructure.
